Peyton-Grismer Revitalization Project

The Burbank Housing Corporation is pleased to announce the completion of the Peyton-Grismer revitalization development, a 70-unit multi-family affordable housing community located on Grismer Avenue and Elliot Drive in Burbank premiering June 24.

A key feature is the Activity and Family Resource Center, which is the physical and communal heart of the project. The Activity and Family Resource Center promotes lifelong learning and integration skills by providing extra-curricular education for residents and their children by offering afterschool homework assistance, mentoring programs, volunteer opportunities, adult education classes (such as English as a Second Language) and financial workshops, among many others. Peyton Grismer, classes and extracurricular activities are free to both children and adults.

Formerly a series of rundown apartment buildings with inadequate circulation and parking, much of the site has been reconfigured. Buildings have been re-engineered to maximize living standards and to encourage positive social interaction. In 14 apartments, new bedrooms were added in order to accommodate larger families. By demolishing one of the previous buildings almost 100 new parking spaces were added to improve circulation. This will not only assist the complex but also the neighborhood, which suffers from a lack of parking.

Peyton Grismer was developed by the Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC), a non-profit developer that partnered with the Burbank Redevelopment Agency. Including Peyton Grismer, BHC owns and manages over 270 affordable housing units in Burbank. The Corporation’s mission is to preserve, rehabilitate and develop new affordable housing opportunities and to provide a safe, service-enriched environment for Burbank residents.
